My first meetup in US
This is an OLD POST...
After a couple of days of working and partying in the Bay Area, I've decided to actually go to one of the meetups (on this website) and meet new people, share my ideas and get inspired by their ideas.
So I just picked up first interesting meetup that I've found on the website: https://www.meetup.com/Silicon-Valley-Startup-Idea-to-IPO/events/54635562/
And later on, me and 3 of my co-workers joined the meetup (after work, of course))).
Anyway, once we've walked in the cafe, we've noticed a couple of tables which had the meetup name on them and a guy (the organizer) who was greeting people. You had to approach the table, pick a sticker, write your name down and stick it on yourself. Looked funny, but I found it extremely useful as I tend to forget people names very easy.
In a couple of minutes more and more people start flowing in the cafe. We've started talking and sharing our experiences and ideas. We were 7 or 8 people at the table (us - 4 drupal geeks, and others). There were people from different fields, some from the government, some were managers, some had their own start-ups and some people were just students with interesting ideas. I liked the fact that everyone was friendly and eager to find out about others and their experiences. Most of the people never heard of Moldova and Drupal - so everyone was curious about us, what we do, were did we come from, how did we get here and of course about Propeople.
There was a funny moment when a guy was talking about his startup and inspiring explaining all the details of his project (http://www.questbid.com) and then we're like: "Hey, what's it running on?" and he's like "PHP.." and then I go "anything specific? CMS, Framework?" and he's like "well yes, it's called Drupal.." .. :)
All-in-all I must say it was an interesting experience, I'll definitely hold on to this meetup group and probably I'll join some more, more people, more inspiration!
I have got to bring meetup-like project to Moldova - sooner or later it'll be there, I promise! :)
